The Game’s Afoot

Story: A glittering whodunit set on Christmas Eve, 1936: William Gillette, an actor famous for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow castmates to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. When one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears.


Seeking 3 Male and 5 Female actors

WILLIAM GILLETTE/SHERLOCK – Male, Late 30s-50s A charming and energetic actor famous for playing Sherlock Holmes.

FELIX GEISEL/MORIARTY – Male, Late 30s-50s Sarcastic and melodramatic, married to Madge. (*Physicality note: will need to be able to drag a body around the stage)

SIMON BRIGHT – Male, 20s-30s Lovable and naive, he is a young actor with big dreams.

MARTHA GILLETTE – Female, 60s+Clever, fierce, and occasionally dotty, she is Gillette’s mother. 

MADGE GEISEL – Female, Late 30s-50s Wry, clever, and passionate leading lady. She is married to Felix.

AGGIE WHEELER – Female, 20s-30s A kindly and gentle young actress with a tragic past. 

DARIA CHASE – Female, 30s-60s Acerbic theatre critic, flamboyant and scene-stealing.

INSPECTOR GORING – Female, 30s-60s Eccentric investigator with a passion for all things Sherlock. (UK accent suggested but not required)

With an intimate and beautiful theatre, Peninsula Players is the ideal environment to enjoy some of the best theatre Niagara has to offer. With about 120 seats, there truly is not a bad seat in the house. Add to the mix breathtaking high-quality productions built by local craftsmen, costumes hand-crafted to suit each actor, and a stellar cast of local talent, and what you get is a theatrical experience in a class all its own. Audience members are guaranteed to experience two exceptional shows each season. With reserved seating, Gala and regular show nights, and discounts for seniors & students, theatre tickets are the perfect way to treat yourself and your loved ones to a wonderful year of theatre.

Preferred Seating
Sponsors and Members are offered tickets one week before they go on sale to the public, giving you first choice of seats.
Easy Ticket Exchanges
Can’t make it to your scheduled performance? We’ve got your back! Just call the Box Office 24 hours before the show and they’ll move you to another performance.
Gift Vouchers
Call the Box Office to arrange a gift voucher… and what could be better than the gift of theatre?
Community Youth Support
We promote youth involvement in the theatre and our commitment doesn’t stop there. A portion of every ticket sale goes toward annual scholarships at local high schools.
Gala Opening Night
Our opening night is a Gala Wine & Cheese extravaganza! Tickets are only $30. No tux or tiara required, just enjoy the refreshments and the excitement of Opening Night!

Our ticket prices are a steal of a deal for community theatre. Gala: $30. Adults: $20 Seniors and Students: $20

There are two free parking lots at Trinity United Church, with plenty of extra free street parking.

Our mandate is to provide excellent entertainment, to cultivate growth and expression among our members and to support the community through charitable donations. And to have fun! We are a recognized non-profit organization and a member of both the Niagara and Hamilton amateur theatre communities. Our season runs from June to May and features two main-stage productions. Peninsula Players Community Theatre Company has been staging full productions since its inception in 1982.  Our season consists of two mainstage shows per year and they run in late March and November.  We are very proud of our talented actors, directors and backstage crew, volunteers all!  Our productions are known to be very professional and our sets are small masterpieces.  We’ve come a long way from our humble beginnings in a Smithville barn. Over the years, Peninsula Players has staged over 50 productions with many great directors.
